Referring Optometrists

A personal letter to Optometrists

Greetings,

Thank you for visiting our website and taking the time to read this message. As we all know, there are many challenges that we face in delivering high quality care to our patients. It is my hope that I can make the process of surgical eye care a bit less complex for you and your patients.

First, and most importantly, I believe that co-management of surgical cases with optometrists often provides the best and most convenient care for patients. They benefit greatly from the long term relationship you have built with them and from your insight into their unique situation. The travel difficulty that this population of patients frequently experience is quite a burden that can be eased by appropriate post-surgery follow up with you. I have greatly enjoyed the collaboration and relationships I have built with many optometrists over the years. My wish is to work together with you and the patients we see.

For the past ten years, I have working as a cataract and refractive surgeon across Western and Central PA. I did a great deal of surgery and co-managed most patients with many excellent optometrists. I developed strong relationships with them built on mutual respect and trust. You can see some of their references below.

This past fall, I decided it was time for me to start my own practice. My main office location is in Grove City about one half mile east of the I-79 exit. I also see patients at several optometric offices throughout Western, PA. I am on staff at four different surgery centers to minimize travel for patients.

I believe there is a need that Batchelet Eye can address for you and your patients.  The two most unique services I offer are the Light Adjustable Lens and Dropless Cataract Surgery.

Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)

I am currently the only LAL surgeon in the greater Pittsburgh area who co-manages patients. This technology allows the patient to be involved in adjusting and customizing the IOL power after implantation with painless light treatments. Once the desired prescription is achieved, the lens power remains constant after a final “lock in” step. Though it isn’t ideal for every patient, the LAL provides a great range of distance and intermediate/near vision that has many advantages to some fixed IOL implants. If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, wouldn’t you want it carefully tailored?

Dropless Cataract Surgery

I am one of very few surgeons experienced with Dropless Cataract Surgery. Over many years, I have injected anterior chamber antibiotics into the eye and a microdose of subtenon kenalog just posterior to the inferior limbus at the conclusion of each case. I began this method for many reasons including data that shows superior protection against endophthalmitis (without such evidence from drops), frequent patient inability to effectively use drops, and patient cost (it is free to all patients). I have used this method in over 15,000 cases with zero cases of infectious endophthalmitis. Wouldn’t it be great to protect patients better with less cost while not having to answer hundreds of questions a year about drops after cataract surgery?

If you are interested in learning more about me or the many other features of my practice, I would appreciate the opportunity to connect with you.  Feel free to call the practice or leave a message in the link below. I will personally be in touch so we can talk further. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Batchelet Eye.

Warm Regards,

Andy Batchelet

Hear from Dr. Batchelet's Colleagues

Andy Batchelet is a reliable, considerate, supportive and extremely talented surgeon whom I have been fortunate enough to work with for nearly a decade. He masterfully invokes confidence and comfort to my patients with a pleasant demeanor and completes the surgical process with precision and excellence. I am blessed to co-manage with such an expert clinician who is available and gifted enough to answer all inquiries, making the responsibility to my patients much easier. A professional relationship with Andy will certainly enhance your patient outcomes and your overall practice as well.

Nathan Stebbins, OD

During Dr. Batchelet’s time at Laurel Eye Clinic, I sent many patients to him because he is an accomplished and successful surgeon. His refractive results, post cataract surgery, are superb and the healing period is short. He is the only surgeon in the area doing total dropless cataract surgery and my patients love the freedom of not being bothered with drops as well as the cost of those drops. His LASIK results were the same as his cataract surgery…excellent. He is always available for phone calls whether it be normal office hours or after-hours, including weekends. He always accepts referrals to provide a second opinion and take over treatment for those challenging cases. I wish him the best and am happy to help him in the future.

Mike Gray, OD

I have comanaged patients with Dr. Andy Batchelet for almost ten years when he began practicing at Laurel Eye Clinic. During that time our professional relationship has grown. Andy is a great surgeon and I have always seen great results from his cataract and refractive surgery. Patients say how they feel very comfortable with Andy. He certainly takes a stressful situation and makes them feel like he has it under control and that they will be pleased with their outcomes. Working with Andy has been very helpful to me. He always helps whenever a situation arises. I certainly recommend referring patients to him.

Dirk Vandermeer, OD

I have had the privilege of trusting my patients’ surgical eye care needs to Dr. Batchelet for 9 years. Andy is personable and approachable. His excellent surgical care and respect for co-management exemplify the ideal OD/MD relationship. I could depend on clear and timely communication from him. I felt
confident my patients would be returned and that they would be pleased with the care he provided.

Josh Diehl, OD

Andy’s ability as a surgeon has made me feel at ease referring my patients to him. I confidently know they will be in good hands, with top notch care, and return to me seeing well and happy. Additionally, Andy is only a phone call away anytime a question or concern ever arises with any case.

CoFi

Batchelet Eye utilizes a payment service called CoFi. It allows payments for premium services and lens options to be automatically sent to the co-managing optometrist in a compliant way without additional fees. You get paid when we do. This eliminates the need to try to collect payment after the procedure from the patient.

Co-management of premium cataract and LASIK patients is fraught with issues for optometrists: From sacrificing revenue when the patient skips post-op care, to an overall lack of transparency, to very real compliance risks, and more.

CoFi’s collaborative payment platform addresses all of these issues and more for optometric practices. With CoFi, patients pay your practice at the same time they pay the surgeon.

Please submit the following information. A team member with CoFi will be in touch. (Even if you already use CoFi, please still submit so we can establish your practice with Batchelet Eye.)

Schedule a 10 minute demonstration as part of the onboarding process at:

Or email our contact, Lori, at CoFi to schedule: [email protected].

Even if your practice already uses CoFi, please complete these steps to establish your practice with Batchelet Eye. It usually takes about 5 business days to be fully connected once the initial steps have been completed.
